Don't Overlook the Firefighters Endorsement
When the firefighters union announced its endorsement of the Lunsford-Stumbo ticket in the governor's race on Monday, it marked a significant sign of momentum for the campaign.
Support from working families is strong and growing, as voters are responding to the Lunsford-Stumbo message of real change and real leadership. It shows in the polls and in the many appearances on the campaign trail, where Democrats have responded in big numbers and come out to meet Bruce and Greg to talk about the issues.
If you were...

Now 'til November - Bruce is Dems' Best Hope
The noise in the Governor's Race this week is all about fund-raising totals, because reports were due to the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance on Wednesday.
The story the numbers expose is the reality that Bruce can compete with the Republicans from now 'til November.
The Campaign for Change reported an impressive $720,000 in donations from nearly 1,000 contributors. More importantly, it shows that Bruce is poised for a strong stretch run and has the resources to beat the Republicans in November.
When Ernie Fletcher began airing...

Picture A Kentucky Winner
The results of our online photo contest are in, and you can see a sample of the great photos the campaign received on our photo blog page.
About a month ago, we asked campaign supporters to send in scenic photos from across Kentucky. We wanted to show the variety of special places in the Commonwealth, and showcase them on the official campaign website. This photo of a Kentucky sunset caught our eye,...

Democrat for Change
Bruce Lunsford is proud of his Kentucky heritage. On the campaign trail, he frequently discusses his early life on a northern Kentucky farm, his college education in Lexington, his early political success in Frankfort and his business triumphs in Louisville.
His is a compelling life story, and the campaign has created a 15-minute video presentation, called Democrat for Change, that puts a spotlight on not only his successful life story, but his plans to lead the Commonwealth to a bright future.
The...

Blueprint Feedback
The campaign has been pleasantly surprised by the volume of feedback to the Blueprint for Change (Go to the bottom of the page to read the comments).
We've received ideas from voters all across the state.
And tons of people are calling the hotline to request their copy of the Blueprint. It shows that what Bruce has been saying at the Bluegrass Barbecues is true - people are engaged and hungry for new ideas. They're reading the Blueprint - and responding with their own ideas.

Warming Up to West Louisville
When Bruce arrived at the West Louisville campaign headquarters on Broadway for his seventh Bluegrass Barbeque, it was cold and windy. But the wintry breeze did little to cool the enthusiasm of more than 250 supporters who braved the chill to shake hands with the candidate for governor and bend his ear a bit.
It was an old-fashioned front-porch political talk, as Bruce spoke for about 15 minutes about his plans for change in state government, discussing his Blueprint for Change –...

Behind the Blueprint
Since the campaign started, Bruce and Greg have been touting their Blueprint for Change, promising voters something special – a new vision for change in Kentucky.
The campaign has unveiled the Blueprint, along with an impressive new television commercial and a new page on the campaign website. Today there’s a conference call with reporters, and it will be the hot topic at tonight’s Bluegrass Barbecue in Ashland.
The 32-page document is worth reading. It outlines the candidates’ ideas for universal...

Carroll: Bruce is Dems’ Best Hope for November
In the Democratic Party in Kentucky, it can be argued that no one epitomizes party loyalty more than Julian Carroll. Not only did Carroll serve with distinction as Kentucky’s governor from 1974-1979, Carroll has been Speaker of the House, President of the Senate and Lt. Governor of Kentucky.
He returned to public service three years ago as a state senator, and is a respected leader within the Party. Suffice it to say, when Julian speaks, Democrats...

It's Barbecue Season in Kentucky
It takes someone with a long political memory to recall Wendell Ford’s famous Bean Soup dinners. Ford, considered one of the most successful Kentucky politicians of the last century, helped build his base of support by breaking cornbread with voters across the state during his successful run for Governor in 1971.
Ford, who went on to serve four terms as a U.S. Senator, took back the Governors Mansion from the Republicans, who in 1967 had elected Louie B. Nunn as the first GOP governor in Kentucky...

North Star: Lunsford Takes Campaign Home
On Thursday, the Lunsford-Stumbo became the first gubernatorial slate to set up shop in northern Kentucky, as Bruce Lunsford made a claim on his home region in the May 22 Democratic primary.
In a story in the Kentucky Enquirer, Bruce said, “We put an office up here with every intention" of carrying Northern Kentucky. Bruce was raised on a tobacco farm in nearby Piner, in Kenton County.
Bruce and Greg spent much of the day in the area....

A Full Plate at the Bluegrass BBQ
At the first Bluegrass Barbeque, Bruce Lunsford and Greg Stumbo were met by a larger-than-expected crowd. More than 200 people showed up at the St. Matthews Community Center to ask the candidates about their stance on a variety of issues, from health care and education to pensions, the environment and a cigarette tax.
Several folks came simply to shake hands with Bruce and Greg, look...

Separation of Bruce and the Slates
With just 63 days until the May 22 primary, the Lunsford-Stumbo ticket is starting to separate itself from the pack of Democratic candidates.
Yesterday, Bruce outlined his plan for a Children’s Kitchen Cabinet, a part of the campaign’s Blueprint for Change that focuses on the needs of our children. He spoke at a child care center in downtown Louisville about how he plans to get the job done for Kentucky’s kids.
Fox 41 and WAVE...

Painting the town Blue on St. Patrick's
It wasn’t supposed to be this cold. Mary Karen Stumbo kept telling her daughter Kassidy, sitting in the yellow Corvette next to her Dad, that the parade was getting ready to start.
And when it did, a sea of blue-shirted Lunsford-Stumbo supporters, and the yellow ‘Vette, provided a sharp contrast to the greenish tint in the crowd of folks lining Lexington’s Main Street for the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Once the parade got started, the chilly breeze became a little more bearable, and...

Standing Out in a Crowd
Because he's not a professional politician, Bruce isn't likely to give a dodgy political answer on tough questions. That makes him stand out. Case in point. This week, at the Louisville Forum, Bruce was asked about raising the cigarette tax. Bruce answered straight that he was open to raising the cigarette tax (which, by the way is the fourth-lowest rate in the nation) if revenue was tied to health care programs (where we have one of the higest rates of smoking-related deaths and illnesses). For his straightforward answer,...

Cards, Campaign Ad Both Break Quickly
By the first timeout, any concern that Louisville fans had about their team taking care of Stanford in the NCAA Tournament were long gone. The Cardinals could do no wrong in the early going at Rupp Arena.
With the important issue decided early, the question of the day became, “When will the new Lunsford campaign spot debut?”
It didn’t come until Louisville had built a 26-point halftime lead. During...

Hoops Heaven – Let’s Get it Started
When the Louisville Cardinals open the NCAA Tournament in Rupp Arena Thursday, the May 22 primary will be far from the minds of most Democratic voters. Or gubernatorial candidates, for that matter.
Bruce and Greg’s Blueprint for Change may not help the Cats and Cardinals win, but it does address the Commonwealth’s real problems, such as education, health care and job creation. While the games are on, Bruce and Greg will be glued to the TV. The rest of the time, they’re talking to voters about...

Busy Weekend for the Campaign for Change
Bruce Lunsford was on familiar turf Saturday, speaking to the Kentucky Women’s Network in Covington. Bruce grew up nearby in Kenton County on his parents’ tobacco farm, and talked about the Covington department store, Coppin’s, where his mother once worked. As reported by the Kentucky Enquirer’s Pat Crowley, Bruce told the group about a key part of the campaign’s Blueprint for Change – health insurance.
Bruce had a great time, talking with friends...

Bruce and Hoops
It’s March in Kentucky, and that means only one thing. College basketball. Even in the middle of a busy gubenatorial campaign, basketball is still important to Bruce and Greg.
So while the Louisville Cardinals prepare for their Big East Tournament opener in New York, and the Kentucky Wildcats just won their first game in the Southeastern Conference tourney in Atlanta, I thought it would be apt to ask Bruce about his basketball bona fides.
“That’s an easy one,” he said. “Kentucky is always...

Hundreds Flock to Frankfort
Bruce Previews Blueprint for Change
For the Campaign for Change rally in Frankfort last night, the music said it all.
With 400 folks filling a conference room at the Capital Plaza Hotel, Stumbo’s grand entrance was accompanied by Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down.” Stumbo, who has lived up to the song’s lyrics repeatedly as attorney general, called running mate Bruce Lunsford “a merchant of change.”
When Greg introduced Bruce to the enthusiastic audience, the sounds of the Black Eyed Peas’ “Let’s Get...

Getting it Done in Prestonsburg
A Real Rally in Prestonsburg - Getting it Done for Kentucky
The Mountain Parkway winds its way south from Lexington to Prestonsburg, where it doesn’t take long to realize you’re in Stumbo Country. And when eastern Kentucky’s favorite native son launches a run for office, Greg Stumbo’s friends come from all around – from Salyersville, Pikeville, Hazard and Stanton.
On Thursday night, more than 500 of those folks came out on a rainy night in Prestonsburg to whoop it up for one of their own – and...

Web Site Launch Sparks Campaign
The launch of the official Lunsford-Stumbo Campaign for Change Web site is generating some great reaction, and focusing attention on the campaign's message of real leadership and real change.
First, the prominent political blog, The Bridge, praised the site as the Best Kentucky Gub Web site for the 2007 race. Heres what the blog had to say:
"I LOVE THE LUNSFORD-STUMBO FOR CHANGE site. It is one of the best political websites that I have even seen. Great colors! Great visuals! Best features! No wonder...
